Motivation

Krashen has come out to say in the past year that motivation is not needed in CI classes, as long as the story is interesting/compelling. The implication there is that human beings cannot resist a good story.

Krashen doesn’t know how hard it is to make a story interesting, though, especially in most of the buildings we teach in right now with all the dark robots walking around not understanding what it is that we do.

I don’t care if it is true that the kids will pay attention if I simply ask a good story. The statement seems condescending to me because asking a good story is so hard. I guess the statement is true, but it’s not that easy to ask a story.

God bless everyone trying to make a story work today in America and everywhere on this Monday in January. That’s all I have to say. It’s not that easy. But it is simple as per my last post here today. And if the process is simple, then we can make it work.

I just resent that Dr. Krashen makes it sound so simple. He’s a god, but a researcher god, so he doesn’t know. Appreciating is not the same as knowing.
