Language Parent

Just one of many points made this week by the Vintner:
Think about the concept of a “language parent.”
The teacher is the language parent. All you want to do is communicate with the kids. So, do what is necessary to make that happen. My mom was the “language parent” to my wife and my wife owes the majority of her acquisition to her. And my mom doesn’t have any “training in teaching languages.” She just wanted to understand and be understood.

  1. This article is GOLD. My language parent was a very patient friend who everyday would meet with me at the University cafeteria in France. We spoke about very narrow topics and would only correct me if I was asking about the French language.
Of interest is the Literacy club analogy. My friend totally made me free part of something. For teachers, it is about building confidence and relationships. To be honest with one-self.
