Heidi Edel

Hi Ben here is my bio:

French Teacher at Shepaug Valley Middle & High School (all levels – we are tiny)
Region 12
Washington CT

This year I am also instructional leader. Although this happened by chance and default, I see it as an opportunity to really implement TPRS. We just transitioned to 100% TPRS in MS & HS, became 6-12 and are also putting into place the PLC concept. Lots of change!

I also will be teaching Introduction to German Language & Culture via Virtual High School (not aiming for proficiency there, but the district gets a discount if someone teaches at VHS — I am learning a lot about how to better leverage the virtual world in the classroom).

This summer, I finished my master’s with a certificate in TESOL. So much of what I learned supported TPRS. My final project was a lit review defense of TPRS and a presentation that I plan on giving to beginning teacher programs in CT.

Several people at the conference in San Diego recommended this PLC, so I am giving it a try. I really love talking shop. Sometimes I need support and sometimes I can give it!

  1. Hello Heidi and WELCOME!!!
I wish I had met you in San Diego!!! I teach Spanish in Maine, and if you ever want to talk, just give me a shout!
We are also having a TCI workshop here in Maine in October. It will be two days with a third for coaching!!! You can contact either Skip or myself for more info – it will be GREAT!!! But, we are also holding “peer coaching sessions” every once in a while, in response to the need to give each other support. These are on the weekends, so if you ever want to come up to Maine for one of these “shots-in-the-arm” you are welcome to join us!! (If you have one in CT, let me know — I might just show up!!) We are having a peer coaching session in two weeks – Thursday, Aug. 22 to get fired up for the start of school. You are invited.

    1. Hi Mary Beth,

Unless I’m mistaken (and believe me, I am not good with names), we did meet in San Diego. You have a relative who has a garage in Danbury and are a swimmer too, right? We had a drink at the conference hotel with our colleagues & Grant. (I was going to write you off site, but I don’t know what your last name is and couldn’t find your contact info in the member list–sorry if this is uninteresting for everyone else!) I was in Maine last year, but am not sure we will be able to attend the conference this year. You are more than welcome to come see us as well. We are implementing TPRS 6-12 for the first time this year!
